Debutant James stars as Remo Stars pip Enyimba in Naija Super 8 opener
New striker scores, assists on debut for Sky Blue Stars
Remo Stars defeated Enyimba 2-1 in the opening Group A match of the Naija Super 8 tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
The curtain-raiser for the preseason tournament was between the top two teams in Nigerian football, both of whom will represent Nigeria in the next CAF Champions League.
Remo Stars paraded a number of their new signings from the start as they were keen to make a mark against the league champions Enyimba. The Ikenne-based outfit defeated Shooting Stars in the playoffs while Enyimba overcame Heartland to reach the group stage.
The Sky Blue Stars took the lead inside 20 minutes through new striker Isaac James, who fired home on his debut for the club to open the scoring.
Enyimba were behind for only five minutes before Chisom Okereke drew them level after slotting home a pass from winger Nonso Nzediegwu.
Remo Stars secured the maximum points two minutes shy of the hour mark when Seun Ogunribide connected to a through pass from the impressive James before firing past Enyimba captain Olorunleke Ojo.
