AFCON 2021

Debutants Gambia beat Guinea to continue AFCON 2021 fairytale

The Scorpions of Gambia have defeated the Syli National of Guinea to book a place in the quarter-final at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gambia were the minnows going into the this clash but as they had done through the group, they turned up again.

As debutants they were written off in a group that had Tunisia and Mali but they pulled through.

They qualified 2nd behind Mali after beating Tunisia in their last group game.

And today they turned up in their second round game against Guinea who are without their captain and talisman Naby Keita.

Musa Barrow scored his second goal of the campaign to help Gambia beat Guinea 1-0.

The 23-year-old Bologna forward received a through ball in front of the Guinea box and burst into the box with a brilliant first touch that took him past a defender before he slid a finish into the bottom corner of the goal in the 71st minute.

Gambia who made it to the quarter-final in their first ever AFCON will now play the winners of the clash between Cameroon and Comoros.
