Diego Maradona hospitalised after Argentina World Cup win over Nigeria
Diego Maradona has reportedly been taken to hospital following Argentina’s 2-1 win over Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.
The 57-year-old was in attendance at Saint Petersburg’s Krestovsky Stadium to watch his country reach the last 16 of the tournament with a late victory over the Super Eagles.
Maradona was energetic throughout the game, with cameras regularly cutting to him for his reactions, including a middle-finger gesture with both hands following Marcos Rojo’s winner.
However, the former Barcelona and Napoli great was then captured on camera being helped from his seat after the game, before collapsing into a chair inside the stadium.
According to The Independent, Maradona was immediately attended to by Russian paramedics and was transported to a local hospital shortly afterwards.
Maradona, widely considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, was instrumental in helping his nation triumph at the 1986 World Cup.
