Diogo Jota the scorer as Liverpool hit 10,000th goal milestone
Liverpool reached a landmark 10,000 goals in all competitions with Diogo Jota’s strike in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Midtjylland.
Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool with their first shot on target in the contest.
The Portugal forward finished off a sweeping team move when he tapped in from close range from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross in the 55th minute.
The reigning Premier League champions hit the milestone figure 128 years after scoring their first goal – Jock Smith’s effort in an 8-0 win over Higher Walton at Anfield in the Lancashire League.
Jota’s goal was the 370th Liverpool have scored in the Europe’s premier club competition, with 6,968 having come in the England’s top flight.
Manchester United reached the five-figure mark with Marcus Rashford’s strike in the 3-2 win at Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League in September.
