Disappointment strikes Bahamas 2024 as Noah Lyles’ World record aspirations derailed by fresh revelation
Noah Lyles’s aspirations to break the 4x200m World Record may have hit a roadblock due to a recent revelation about the World Relays in the Bahamas.
Despite his call to fellow American sprinters to join him in the endeavor earlier in the season, it seems they’ll have to wait until next year to attempt the feat.
Lyles, the world’s fastest man, had reached out to sprinters Erriyon Knighton and Kenny Bednarek, expressing his desire to break the Jamaican 4x200m World Record at this year’s World Relays.
Bednarek eagerly agreed, highlighting the need for such a record-breaking event to be included in major competitions like the Olympics and World Championships.
The current 4x200m World Record stands at 1:18.63, set by the Jamaican team comprising Nickel Ashmeade, Warren Weir, Nickel Ashmeade (again), Jermaine Brown, and Yohan Blake.
While the American team, with Lyles, Knighton, and Bednarek, boasts the talent and speed to challenge this record, they would need a fourth member to complete the squad. Fortunately, the USA has a wealth of sprinting talent to choose from, including Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Courtney Lindsey, and Michael Norman, among others.
However, their plans will have to be put on hold as this year’s World Relays is focused on Olympic qualification events, featuring only the 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m races. Therefore, Lyles and his squad will have to wait until next year for their shot at breaking the 4x200m World Record.
