Djokovic claims Grand Slam number 18 in Down Under
Defeats Daniil Medvedev in Australian Open final
World number one, Novak Djokovic claimed his ninth Australian Open title at the expense of Russia’s world number four, Daniil Medvedev at the final of the 2021 Australian Open on Sunday at the Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic defeated a visibly frustrated Medvedev in straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-2 to claim his third straight Australian Open crown and his ninth overall on Melbourne Park. Medvedev had started the game well before he started to look agitated, breaking his racquet out of frustration against the calm and collected Djokovic.
Djokovic has now won 18 Grand Slam titles and is only two behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 as the race for who wins the most Grand Slam titles gets even more intense between the trio.
