Djokovic nears decision on ATP finals as health and family take priority

Novak Djokovic is expected to decide soon whether he will participate in the ATP Finals in Turin. However, the choice may be influenced by his health and personal priorities, even if he qualifies for the tournament.

The Serbian star, who remains focused on Grand Slam titles and a potential second Davis Cup victory with Serbia in 2025, has indicated that his motivation for regular ATP Tour events has waned. At this stage of his career, Djokovic is placing a higher value on time with his family, which could impact his participation in the year-end finals.

Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski shared his thoughts on Djokovic’s likely choice. Speaking on The Tennis Channel, Rusedski highlighted Djokovic’s ongoing knee issues and the importance of rest. “We still see that knee brace,” Rusedski noted. “If Novak is 100% healthy, he’s a contender for every major next year. Health is your wealth, and as you get older, you need to be smarter with your schedule.”

Djokovic’s limited schedule this year, combined with his deep runs to the Australian Open semi-finals and Wimbledon final, has kept him in the ATP Race top eight. Despite a quieter year by his standards, he currently sits in sixth place, which would secure his spot in Turin. Yet, with Djokovic recently vacationing in the Maldives, there’s growing speculation he might choose to forego further matches in 2024.

If Djokovic does withdraw, the ninth-placed player in the ATP Race could secure the last spot for Turin, adding a potential twist to the race. As Djokovic’s decision looms, fans and fellow players await clarity on his plans for the remainder of the season.
