Donald Trump Speaks After Unexpectedly Joining Chelsea’s Trophy Celebration

Donald Trump has spoken out after surprising fans by joining Chelsea’s Club World Cup celebrations, SportsRation reports.
Chelsea won the first Club World Cup held under the new format on Sunday, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3–0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium in the United States.
The result came as a surprise to many, as PSG had won the Champions League just last month and were strong favourites going into the match. But Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea took control early, with Cole Palmer scoring twice and Joao Pedro adding another before half-time.
After the match, both teams received their medals. US President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino then handed the Club World Cup trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
However, fans were caught off guard when Trump stayed on the stage during the trophy lift. Normally, officials leave the stage once the players are ready to celebrate.
Trump had been watching the game alongside Infantino and was interviewed at half-time by DAZN, saying he was “having a really great time.” But instead of stepping away after presenting the trophy, he remained on stage, creating an unusual moment as the Chelsea players lifted the cup with the US President still standing beside them.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer later admitted he was “a bit confused,” as the players had only been told that Trump would present the trophy, not stay for the celebration.
Trump has shown more interest in football since returning to office in January. With the United States set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada, and also hosting this year’s Club World Cup, his involvement has increased.
Following the match, Trump posted a photo of himself with the Chelsea squad on his Truth Social platform. The picture was originally shared by a cricket fan account but was quickly picked up by Trump’s official page.
He was also seen receiving a winner’s medal from Infantino during the ceremony, despite not playing in the match.
Speaking to DAZN about the game, Trump said: “Gianni is a friend of mine. He’s done a great job with the league and with soccer – or as they would call it, ‘football’. But I guess we’ll call it soccer. It’s great to watch, and today has definitely been a bit of a surprise result.”
