Drake loses close to a billion naira after betting on Francis Ngannou to defeat Anthony Joshua

Popular musician Drake suffered a substantial loss of almost 1 billion naira ($615,000) after betting on Francis Ngannou to defeat Anthony Joshua.

Joshua floored Ngannou in the second round to win the bout last night, thus bringing pain to Ngannou’s backers like Drake.

This loss marks a significant setback for Drake, who has gained attention for his sizable bets on sporting events over the past two years. While he has experienced both notable wins and losses in his betting endeavors, this recent defeat comes as a substantial blow.

Drake’s wager on Ngannou to emerge victorious against Joshua amounted to a six-figure sum.

Had Ngannou secured the win, Drake stood to potentially win just under $2 million. However, Joshua’s commanding performance dashed those hopes as he swiftly put Ngannou down with a powerful right hand in the first round, a feat even Tyson Fury couldn’t accomplish.

Cameroonian fighter Ngannou toppled to the canvas after the destructive final punch from 34-year-old Joshua, as the crowd in Riyadh's Kingdom Arena erupted. Dazed and hurt, Ngannou managed to recover and exchanged words with Joshua, as the victor urged him "not to leave" boxing despite his crushing defeat.

Despite Ngannou’s resilience, Joshua continued to dominate, ultimately delivering another decisive blow in the second round that ended the fight. Ngannou’s defeat came swiftly, leaving Drake to face the consequences of his unsuccessful bet.

This isn’t the first time Drake has faced losses in his betting ventures. In a previous Misfits Boxing match, he placed a substantial bet on YouTube boxer Logan Paul to defeat Dillon Danis, a training partner of Conor McGregor. However, the match ended in disqualification after Danis attempted to strangle Paul, resulting in Drake losing out on a $920,000 purse.

Similarly, Drake’s support for Israel Adesanya in his UFC middleweight title bout against Sean Strickland also ended in disappointment. Despite backing Adesanya to win by knockout, Strickland emerged victorious, causing Drake to miss out on another substantial payout.

While Drake’s betting ventures have yielded mixed results, his recent loss serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports betting and the risks involved in high-stakes gambling.
