D’Tigress shoot down DR Congo in an improved 2nd game and half display

A dominant first and fourth quarters display from the D’Tigress ensured a comfortable 84-47 win over Democratic Republic of Congo in their second game at the 2017 Afro Basket Women in Mali.

Elitzur Holon of Israel forward Nyingifa Atonye Jennifer led the team in scoring with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, while Upe Atosu dropped 12 points and Nkechi Akashili added 11 points and 3 steals to help Nigeria secure their 2nd win in two days.

The D’Tigress started the game very strongly as they raced into a 23-8 first quarter lead but we’re pegged back in the second quarters to end the first half with a 41-30 lead.

The D’Tigress were a different class in the second half as they dominated plays both in and out of the paint to race into 11-8 and 32-9 leads in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Madu led in assists with 5 and Akhator in the rebounds with 9, 8 of which are defensive and 1 offensive. D’Tigress made 27/63 in 2 points attempts of 42.86% shooting in the paints and 3/12 of 25% behind the arc and good free throws shooting percentage 67.74 of 21/31 attempts.

Nigeria will next play Egypt tomorrow at 10:30 am but most improve on their shooting and composure to stand a chance against the Egyptian girls who have been impressive so far.
