Dubois ready for ‘blood bath’ as he targets revenge against Usyk
With Daniel Dubois now officially set to face Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight title fight, he spoke to BoxNation about what this opportunity means to him and how he plans to avenge his previous defeat. Here are some of the highlights from Dubois’ interview:
Dubois on fighting Usyk for all the major world titles:
“There’s only one way this is going to end – I’m going to walk away with all the belts. I’m ready for him and I’m very hungry. This time, it’s going to be a blood bath. I’m going in there to demolish him.
“I’m happy everything has come together at the right time. It’s all about timing, and now I’m ready to grab this opportunity with both hands.
“This is about revenge, there’s a lot riding on it, but it’s also the biggest fight in boxing.”
On believing he should have beaten Usyk the first time:
“Definitely, 100%. When I look back at it, when he went down, it should have been over. But politics and the war and everything else played a part. This time, I’ll leave no doubts. No questions. I want to nail him to the canvas and do it properly.
“I’ve got to get it right. I need to finish him off and put him to sleep properly. Last time the crowd was entertained, but this time it’s going to be a real war.”
On whether he will target Usyk’s body again:
“I’m going to hit everything, not just focus on the body. I’ll let loose. What he got away with last time, he won’t escape this time.”
On being a better fighter now than he was before:
“I’m going to be ten times better now. The new version of me you’re going to see is way better than the fighter who faced AJ and the others. I’ll be trimmer, sharper – a real fighting machine.”
On why he believes Usyk won’t cope with the new version of him:
“No chance. I can’t wait for it all to be officially announced and underway, but there’s no way he can handle this power.
“I’m going to be ferocious. I’m a completely different fighter now. You’ll all see – I’m going to put him to sleep properly this time, win the belts, and get my revenge.”
