Eddie Hearn confirms Anthony Joshua’s next fight: Dubois first, then Fury or Usyk
Eddie Hearn, the boxing promoter for Anthony Joshua, has confirmed that the British heavyweight is set to face either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk, provided he overcomes his upcoming challenge against Daniel Dubois.
This anticipated sequence of bouts sets the stage for a potential heavyweight unification match in the near future.
Joshua is slated to fight Daniel Dubois in September. Dubois, the current interim IBF heavyweight champion, secured his title by defeating Filip Hrgovic. This bout is crucial for Joshua, as a victory would pave the way for a showdown with the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk rematch, scheduled for December .
Hearn elaborated on the situation in an interview with UK Sun, stating, “I expect the winner of the December fight to fight Anthony Joshua if he wins in September. There’s no decision yet made on the opponent, there’s three or four in the mix. But yeah, that’s the absolute plan. The priority is to regain the world heavyweight title and obviously undisputed has always been the dream. So I think we’re two fights away from becoming undisputed. But, we’ve got to win them” .
The upcoming fight between Fury and Usyk is a highly anticipated rematch after Usyk’s victory over Fury earlier in May, which crowned him the undisputed heavyweight champion. This rematch in December will determine who Joshua could face next if he successfully defeats Dubois .
Joshua, known for his disciplined training regime and strategic prowess in the ring, is preparing intensively for his bout against Dubois. This fight is seen not only as a stepping stone but also a significant test of his abilities after a period of ups and downs in his career. Hearn and Joshua’s camp remain optimistic about their path to reclaiming and unifying the heavyweight titles .
