Nigeria on Tuesday, Febuary 6, 2024, won two more medals at the ongoing Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt as Edidiong Umoafia claimed two silver medals.
Competing in the 73kg men’s category, the 2022 Commonwealth Bronze medalist claimed two two in snatch and and total
He lifted 144kg in snatch and 170kg in clean and jerk with a total of 314.
The two silver medals have taken Nigeria’s medal haul at the championship to 8.
Recall that Rafiatu Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye both won three gold and three silver medals respectively on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s participation at the championship will be rounded off on Wednesday when Joy Eze Ogbonne will compete in the 71kg women’s category by 11am Nigeria time.
The Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship also serves as Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier.
Nigeria weightlifters will participate in the final qualifying campaign later in March from 31 to 11 April 2024 in Phuket, Thailand.
