Edo Queens Accept CAF Decision, To Resume WAFU-B Final On October 29

Edo Queens FC have accepted the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to complete the outstanding extra time of their disputed WAFU-B final against Ghanaian side Ampem FC in Cairo, Egypt, on October 29, 2026.

The Nigerian champions made the decision after consultations with the Edo State Government, the club’s board and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Although the club expressed disappointment with the outcome of the appeal process, it said it was ready to continue the match in the interest of fair play.

Edo Queens will leave Nigeria for Cairo on Monday, October 26, ahead of the decisive encounter.

The club said its main target remained securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League, which begins in Cairo on November 1, 2026.

“Our mission remains unchanged: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the club stated.

Edo Queens also thanked the Edo State Government and the NFF for their support throughout the appeal process.

The club appreciated its supporters and the media for standing by the team during the period of uncertainty, urging fans to continue supporting the players.

It added that the players and technical crew remained focused and ready to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride.

How The Dispute Started

The controversy began on September 5, 2026, when Edo Queens were declared winners of the WAFU-B final after beating Ampem FC 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

However, Ampem FC protested the decision, arguing that the match should have gone into 30 minutes of extra time before a penalty shootout, in line with the competition rules.

The Ghanaian club’s protest led to a review by CAF’s disciplinary and appeals bodies.

Following the review, CAF ruled in favour of Ampem FC and ordered the teams to complete the outstanding extra time.

The decision means Edo Queens must return to the pitch to settle a final they had previously celebrated winning.

With the CAF Women’s Champions League scheduled to begin on November 1, the October 29 encounter will be crucial in determining the WAFU-B representative for the continental competition.

Edo Queens will now look to put the disappointment behind them, complete the contest against Ampem FC and secure their place among Africa’s leading women’s clubs.
