Edo Queens triumph in CAF Women Champions League qualifiers
Nigeria champions Edo Queens kicked off their campaign in the WAFU B region of the CAF Women Champions League qualifiers with a strong performance on Sunday evening.
In a closely contested first half, Emem Essien opened the scoring for Edo Queens in the 35th minute. Suliat Abideen then doubled the lead with a penalty just before halftime, making it 2-0.
The Nigerian side dominated the second half, netting three more goals to secure a convincing 5-0 victory.
This win propelled Edo Queens to the top of the group table, following Hasaacas Ladies’ goalless draw with Etincelles in their opening match.
Edo Queens will be hoping to build-on the winning start to book a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League main-event later in the year.
Nigerian clubs, Rivers Angels and Delta Queens have previously participated in this competition.
