Eguavoen confident as Super Eagles gear up for crucial 2025 AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure maximum points in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The three-time African champions are set to face the Cheetahs of Benin and the Amavubi of Rwanda in their opening matchday 1 and 2 fixtures.

As the Super Eagles prepare for these crucial encounters, Eguavoen remains optimistic about the team’s chances. Speaking to the team’s media, the former Nigerian international defender emphasized the strength and readiness of his squad.

“I am very confident that we will scale through the two games and beyond,” Eguavoen stated. “We have the materials, we have the players and personnel, we have the support, we have everything.”

Eguavoen also reminded his players of their recent near-success at the last AFCON, urging them to use that experience as motivation to turn things around and reclaim their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.

“They were almost African champions months ago. It is not even a year yet. What went wrong? They are the ones to turn the table around, it is not bad,” he said. “I have spoken to them; we are still going to have a few meetings before the game proper.”

The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign against Benin Republic, followed by a second match against Rwanda.
