Eguavoen delighted with ‘younger brother’ Amuneke appointment
Gives hope to Nigerian based players
Super Eagles Technical Adviser and Interim coach Austin Eguavoen has reacted to the news of the appointment of his ‘younger brother’ Emmanuel Amunike.
During the week, the Nigeria Football Federation announced a new coaching staff that included the former Tanzania manager as the chief coach and assistant 1 in the frame of Emmanuel Amuneke.
Austin Eguavoen retained is position as the NFF/National Technical Director/Interim Super Eagles Technical Adviser,
Emmanuel Amuneke the Chief Coach/First Assistant to Technical Adviser.
Salisu Yusuf as the Second Assistant to Technical Adviser/Chief Coach, CHAN, Joseph Yobo as Third Assistant to Technical Adviser, and Aloysius Agu as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Eguavoen described Amuneke’s appointment by the NFF, as a “very good development.”
“Amuneke is my younger brother and we have worked together for so long. I think his coming into the team will add a lot of value also.”
Austin Eguavoen who has been going to various venues to watch the Nigeria Professional Football League games disclosed the reason behind the movement.
The 1994 AFCON winner said he and his colleagues are watching the home-based players and could give a chance to them.
“Once we get information on a player, I will go round to watch him. And not just me, a couple of my colleagues are also watching.
“That gives the home-based players a lot of hope and thinking that they will get a chance one day to play in the Super Eagles.”
