Eguavoen talks Eagles plan for Knock-out stages, gives credit to Rohr and his players

Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has highlighted plans his wards as they head into the knock-out stages at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria secured all the points from their group following a 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau last night. Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 in their first game and 3-1 in their second game against Sudan.

This Eagles became just the second team in Nigeria’s history to win all three group games since the team coached by Augustine Eguavoen did it in 2006.

Coach Eguavoen became the first to do it and the second person to do it again last night.

But the 1994 AFCON winner is taking all the glory as he gave credit to his players and Eagles former coach Gernot Rohr.

“We have to give Gernot Rohr his credit, he assembled the players.

“Credit to the players, we knew it would be a tough game,” talking about the win against Guinea-Bissau.

There were uncertainty around the team following the sack of Gernot Rohr few days to AFCON 2021, injuries to Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and the Emmanuel Dennis incident.

But so far, Super Eagles have risen above the problems and are gunning for their fourth AFCON title.

“No one gave us a chance, from the first game. I will continue to give credit to my players, but people have started respecting Nigeria, but it won’t get into our heads.

“We will start training more of penalties.”

At the end of today’s game, Nigeria’s next opponents will be confirmed.
