Eket Stadium: Akwa United FC to face Katsina United in historic inauguration day game

Akwa United FC will face Katsina United FC  in the first ever football match at the new Eket Stadium on Friday September 30, 2022 by 4pm.

Two teams owned and funded by the government of two Nigerian states created on the 23rd of September 1987 , in a novelty game that will draw memories of the creation of the two states while setting new histories as the Eket Stadium is inaugurated.

The game will happen after the official commissioning of the 18,000 capacity stadium by 3pm.

Aside the novelty to mark the inauguration of the new stadium , Akwa United FC head coach Ayodeji Ayeni will use the game to test new players ahead of the new season .

A symbolic and historic game, Akwa United FC have never lost to Katsina United FC on home soil and will hope to maintain this record in front of an expectedly excited home crowd .

Katsina United FC on their part are rebuilding following a disappointing 2021/2022 NPFL season.
