Ekong to undergo surgery for hamstring injury sustained during 2023 AFCON
2023 Africa Cup of Nations most valuable player, William Troost-Ekong will miss the rest of the 2023/2024 season with injuy sustained at the AFCON.
Troost-Ekong was a key figure in Nigeria Super Eagles AFCON silver-medal winning campaign, scoring three goals, one a header in the final against Ivory Coast on February 11.
According to multiple sources, Ekong sustained this season-ending injury during Nigeria’s group stage win over the Elephants of Ivory Coast but played through with pain.
Upon return to his club, the Nigerian international is now set to undergo surgery in Finland to sort the hamstring injury, which forced him to play through pain in Ivory Coast.
After the expected surgery, Troost-Ekong will spend close to three months in rehabilitation thus ruling him out for the remainder of the season for Greek club PAOK and the Super Eagles who face Argentina in an International Friendly match next month.
Meanwhile, William Troost-Ekong’s proposed move to Saudi Arabia may also be affected by this season-ending injury.
