Emmanuel Adebayor makes U-TURN with support for Ivory Coast after 2023 AFCON win
Recently appointed CAF Ambassador, Emmanuel Adebayor has made a sensational U-turn with his new-love for Ivory Coast following their 2023 AFCON.
While Adebayor was never an enemy or antagonist of the Ivorien nation, it is important to state that he openly backed Nigeria to win the AFCON final on February 11, due to his ties with Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen.
Days after the Elephants defeated Nigeria 2-1 to be crowned champions of Africa for a third time, Former football star Emmanuel Adebayor, renowned for his exploits with Arsenal and Manchester City, has made headlines by pledging his allegiance to Ivory Coast.

Adebayor’s change of heart reportedly stems from a substantial financial windfall he received following AFCON 2023. Sources indicate that he amassed over ₦530 million through advertising partnerships with Ivory Coast since August 2023.
In a statement, Adebayor expressed gratitude towards Ivory Coast, stating, “I can never criticize this country, and I will always support Ivory Coast.”
“From August 2023 to now I have earned more than 200 million FCFA in Ivory Coast in terms of advertising partnerships. I can never criticize this country and I will always support Ivory Coast.”
At the AFCON final match, Adebayor had the honour of unveiling the trophy, one he had never laid hands on as an active player for the Togo National team.
