Emmanuel Ekong, Son of Former Super Eagles Player, Signs Five-Year Contract with Malmo

Malmo FF, the champions of Sweden’s Allsvenskan league, have announced the signing of Emmanuel Ekong, the son of former Super Eagles midfielder Prince Ikpe Ekong.

Ekong has signed a five-year contract with Malmo, ending his seven-year stay at Italian club Empoli. He had joined Empoli from IF Brommapojkarna when he was 16 years old, moving to Italy to join their youth academy. Four years later, he made his Serie A debut. In October of last year, he also played for Sweden’s U21 national team for the first time.

This season, Ekong played 18 matches for Empoli, scoring two goals. He was also loaned to Croatian club NK Istra last season, where he contributed to six goals in 21 league matches.

Speaking after signing for Malmo, Ekong said: “I’m excited to finally be here. I’ve been looking forward to this. Malmo FF’s goals match mine, and I want to be part of a team that always aims to win. I’m excited to play Swedish football again. I believe the team’s style suits me because I’m fast, technical, and like to challenge. I hope to score many goals and help the team.”

Ekong will wear the number 11 shirt for Malmo in the 2025 season and will start training with his new teammates on Thursday in Marbella.
