End of an Era? McCabe signals Arsenal departure

After more than a decade in north London, Katie McCabe has indicated that her time at Arsenal Women could be coming to an end.

With her contract set to expire this summer, the Ireland captain confirmed there has already been outside interest.

“Yes, there’s been interest,” McCabe said. “I’m into my last six months, so technically you’re allowed to speak to others. I’m not part of those conversations. I’ve left those to my agent, but there has been interest.”

She made it clear her focus remains on finishing the season strongly.

“The Arsenal fans know how committed I am to them and to the club. I think I’ve shown that over the last 10 years. I’ve given absolutely everything. But in terms of where I’ll be at, I’m going to see out the next few months and then go from there.”

McCabe joined Arsenal in 2015 from Shelbourne and, after an early loan spell at Glasgow City, reinvented herself under Joe Montemurro as a left back.

From the 2018–19 season onward, she became one of the team’s most reliable figures, helping secure a Women’s Super League title, domestic cups and, most recently, the Women’s Champions League.

With over 200 appearances, 20-plus goals and numerous individual honours, including a PFA Team of the Year selection and a Ballon d’Or nomination, McCabe has been central to Arsenal’s modern era.

Reports suggest Arsenal are planning a squad refresh built around younger players, making a free transfer exit increasingly likely.

If this is the final chapter, it closes a significant era at Arsenal.
