England Lionesses Win Euro 2025 After Beating Spain on Penalties

The England Lionesses have won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 after beating Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout. The final was played at St. Jakob-Park and ended 1-1 after extra time.

This win means England have defended their European title, becoming champions for the second time in a row. It’s also the first time a senior England team has won a major trophy outside the country since the men’s team won the World Cup in 1966.

Spain took the lead in the 25th minute when Mariona Caldentey scored with a header from a cross by Ona Batlle. But England equalised in the second half when Alessia Russo scored in the 57th minute, after a clever pass from Chloe Kelly.

England nearly took the lead later, with Lucy Bronze hitting the crossbar, but the match stayed 1-1 through full time and extra time.

The game was then decided by penalties. England scored three of their five penalties, while Spain only scored one out of four.

Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was the star of the shootout, saving penalties from Olga Carmona and Irene Paredes. Russo and Kelly both scored their penalties for England.

Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati was named Player of the Tournament for her excellent performances throughout the competition.

This victory is a proud moment for English football and a big achievement for the Lionesses.
