England win the battle of the Lions to set up last-eight clash against France
The Teranga Lions of Senegal were no match for the Three Lions of England as win the battle of the Lions with a quarterfinal clash against France as their reward.
Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka got the goals as England defeated Senegal 3-0 in their last 16 tie to progress to the last 8 in Qatar.
It was a balanced first 45 minutes with Senegal enjoying the much of the ball and creating chances to score but it was England who ended the half two goals up.
Boulaye Dia was presented with a golden opportunity to put Senegal up early on but his effort was saved by Jordan Pickford before England got their first.
Jude Bellingham was deeply involved in the goal as he carried the ball into Senegal’s half before making a cutback to Jordan Henderson who scored the first goal of the game in the 38th minute.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was again involved as England scored the second goal in the additional minute of the first half through captain Harry Kane.
Jude Bellingham released Phil Foden on the counter-attack who then tee up Harry Kane for the second.
Senegal made changes at the break in an attempt to force their way back into the game but fell further behind in the 57th minute when Foden squared for Saka to make it three.
There was no way back for Senegal as England secured a 3-0 win their biggest ever in the knockout stages of World Cup.
They will now face defending champions France in the quarterfinal.
