Tokyo Olympics

Enoch Adegoke the fastest African, one of the fastest in 100m going to semis

Usheoritse Itsekiri also makes the semis as Divine Oduduru disqualified

Nigeria’s Enoch Adegoke has qualified for the semi-final after blitzing his way to the first place in his heat with a time of 9.98s.

Adegoke beat favourites Trayvon Brommel, Zharnel Hughes to book a semi-final spot with his eyes on the podium.

His 9.98s is the 4tn fastest at the 2020 Olympics just behind Canada’s Andre De Grasse (9.91s), Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs (9.94s), and USA’s Fred Kerly who clocked 9.97s.

In fact, Adegoke clocked the fastest time amongst the seven other African athletes who also made it to the semi-final.

Three South Africans; Shaun Maswanganyi (10.12s), Gift Leotlela (10.04s), Akani Simbine (10.08s), an Ivorian Arthur Cisse and Nigeria’s Usheoritse Itsekiri (10.15s) joined Adegoke from Africa in the semis.

Would have been three Nigerian in the semis but Divine Oduduru was controversially disqualified for a false start.

Enoch Adegoke is just the 11 Nigerian athlete to clock under 10s.
