Enyeama makes Lille return, shares delight over warm reception
Legendary Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama made a return to French club Lille OSC and was warmly received by fans. SportsRation reports.
Vincent Enyeama expressed his joy at returning home, describing the experience as immense. He thanked @losclive for the wonderful reception and the opportunity to return home.
Vincent Enyeama wrote on Facebook: ” It was amazing to be back home (Stade Pierre Mauroy) .The feeling was immense .The ambiance was awesome. The reception was wonderful. Thank you @losclive for the beautiful time and opportunity to be back home. ”
Recall that Enyeama represented Lille OSC from June 2011 when he transferred to the French club on a three-year contract.
He made his debut for Lille on 18 October 2011 against Inter Milan in the 2012 UEFA Champions League group stage, where Lille suffered a 1–0 defeat.
Throughout the 2013–14 Ligue 1 season, Enyeama was chosen as the first-choice goalkeeper by club manager René Girard, displacing Steeve Elana.
Partnering with defenders Marko Baša and Simon Kjær, Enyeama kept an impressive 11 consecutive clean sheets in Ligue 1 matches during the first half of the season. However, on 8 December 2013, his streak ended after conceding a goal in a match against Bordeaux, falling just 114 minutes short of equalling Gaëtan Huard’s Ligue 1 record for minutes played without conceding a goal.
In the 2017–18 season, Enyeama was notably absent from league matches due to a dispute between him and the club’s management. He rejoined the team’s pre-season training in July 2018 but was eventually released by mutual consent on 31 August 2018.
The former Nigeria Super Eagles captain has since stopped playing football and was a guest at Lille OSC recent home game.
