Enyimba 1 Rivers 0: Ogunbote glad to come top as Eguma rues missed chances

Enyimba’s Gbenga Ogunbote is delighted to have secured the maximum points against a strong Rivers United on Sunday while his counterpart Stanley Eguma rued his ladsĀ failure to convert their opportunities in the encounter.

Mfon Udoh’s penalty was all that the People’s Elephants needed to secure a 1-0 victory over United at the UJ Esuene Stadium in CalaberĀ on Sunday but the head coach of the two-time African Champions League winners revealed that the victory was a difficult one.

“It was a hard-earned victory. We never expected a cheap one because even if they have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League, it does not make them a bad side.

“You should not forget that they recruited for the continent so it wasnā€™t a bad one,” he said.

While Gbenga Ogunbote was ecstaticĀ about the result, Stanley Eguma was left furious at his side’s poor display in front of goal and the state of the pitch at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calaber.

“It was a good game; we played a good game.

“Itā€™s just that we missed our chances and the pitch also affected our game.

“The pitch is very bumpy and not playable. We have lost today and have to look forward to other games.

“We must try to get back to winning ways and improve our position on the log.”

Rivers who have lost their last three games including their 4-0 humiliation in Sudan are presently occupying the 19th position with 14 points after 12 games while Enyimba are gradually climbing the ladder they are 7th on the log with 22 points from 15 games.
