Enyimba claim Pillars scalp as Warriors pick up first point- NPFL Matchday 5 Round-up

Enyimba FC defeated rivals, Kano Pillars 2-1 at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba. Enyimba raced into a two nil first half lead with Anayo Iwuala opening the scoring, and Gabriel Orok doubling the lead with his first ever NPFL goal. Pillars pulled one back late in the game from a Fahad Usman freekick, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Abia Warriors picked up their first point the season away at Nnewi in an Oriental derby against FC Ifeanyi Ubah. They took an early lead through Christian Samuel but got pegged back in the second half by Christian Molokwu to get the scores to 1-1. Samuel got red carded following two bookable offences in second half added time.

Rivers United extended their stay at the top of the table with a 3-1 home win against Heartland. Godwin Aguda converted from the penalty spot, before further goals from Kazie Enyinnaya and Malachi Ohawume secured the points. Heartland scored one through Shedrack Oghali.

Nasarawa United won at home 1-0 against Katsina United thanks to a goal from Silas Nwankwo. Nasarawa United remain the only unbeaten team in the league this season.

Plateau United continued their resurgence with a 3-0 win over Adamawa United who look like they are in trouble already this season. An Amos Gyang penalty and Kingsley Innocent and Wasiu Jimoh’s goals were enough to lift Plateau into 9th place.

Jigawa Golden Stars and Kwara United played out a drab 0-0 draw in Kaduna. Kwara United’s ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba made his debut in the NPFL, keeping a clean sheet.

MFM and Rangers played out a 1-1 draw at the Soccer Temple. Rangers got themselves in front through Ugochukwu Ugwuoke before MFM responded almost immediately through Muyiwa Balogun. The result sees Rangers drop to 4th on the log.

Lobi Stars won 2-1 at home against Dakkada FC. They took the lead through a Mathias Samuel freekick before Dakkada equalised through Christian Ekong. It took a 90th minute winner from the penalty spot by Austin Ogunye to settle the tie.

Sunshine Stars needed a 90th minute winner to secure the three points at home to Warri Wolves. Sunshine won the game 1-0 thanks to Sadeeq Yusuf’s third goal of the season.
