Enyimba FC on a roll under young Coach Yemi Olanrewaju after key victory over Lobi Stars
Enyimba FC continued their impressive form with a 2-1 victory over Lobi Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 2 clash on Wednesday at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba. The victory further solidifies the team’s strong start to the season under their 32-year-old coach, Yemi Olanrewaju.
Fresh off their qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) group stage over the weekend, Enyimba displayed their attacking prowess with two quick goals in the first half. Chinedu Ufere opened the scoring, quickly followed by Ekwutoziam Eze’s strike just two minutes later, putting the People’s Elephant firmly in control. Although Lobi Stars’ Waheed Adebayo managed to pull one back, it was little more than a consolation as Enyimba held on for the win.
Olanrewaju, the youngest coach in the NPFL, has led Enyimba to an impressive run of victories, and this win is yet another testament to his tactical acumen. Speaking after the match, Olanrewaju expressed satisfaction with the result, despite acknowledging the physical and mental challenges faced by his team.

“It is good; we are happy to get the three points, that’s what is important,” Olanrewaju said. “This is a league, it’s a marathon, so every game and getting maximum points at home is key. We take it one game at a time, and now we are putting this one behind us and planning for Rivers United.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Olanrewaju admitted that fatigue played a role after their intense CAFCC encounter. “I feel very excited; it’s important to win today after the CAFCC victory. There was a bit of sloppiness today, which is expected after such a stressful weekend, but the most important thing is we got the points.”
Enyimba’s recent success under Olanrewaju, including their CAFCC group stage qualification, has injected fresh optimism into the club’s NPFL campaign. Their next challenge will be against Rivers United, led by Olanrewaju’s former boss, Finidi George, in what promises to be another stern test for the young coach.
With this win, Enyimba moves up the NPFL table, continuing their strong momentum as they aim to add more silverware to their illustrious history.
