Enyimba pips Rangers in rescheduled Oriental derby
People's Elephant moves above Oriental rivals
Enyimba International narrowly defeated fierce Oriental rivals Rangers International 2-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba in their rescheduled NPFL Matchday 20 clash to close the gap with the top of the table to six points.
Enyimba took the lead early in the game through in-form striker Victor Mbaoma’s third minute strike before Rangers equalised through last season’s highest goalscorer Israel Abia just three minutes later following a goalkeeping error by John Noble in the Enyimba goal. Influential attacking midfielder Cyril Olisema scored what turned out to be the winner for Enyimba after 32 minutes to settle the game.
Enyimba’s win puts them in sixth place in the NPFL on 44 points, just six behind Akwa United at the top of the league with two outstanding games against Abia Warriors and Kwara United still to be played.
