Enyimba sign Super Eagles winger, NPFL22 goal king
Former Rivers United winger completes short-term switch
Nigerian giants Enyimba have completed a deal for Super Eagles winger Chijioke Akuneto, signing him on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The former Rivers United winger joins as a free agent, having run his contract down with his previous club.
Akuneto played for Rivers United in their successful NPFL22 campaign, helping the side win the league title in style. He won the Golden Boot after scoring 19 goals for the Pride of Rivers, beating Victor Mbaoma, AbdulAzeez Yusuf, and then-teammate Ishaq Rafiu Kayode to the gong.
Enyimba beat off fierce competition from Akwa United and Remo Stars to secure the signature of the winger, who represented the home-based Super Eagles in the CHAN Qualifiers against Ghana. The People’s Elephant will hope that he hits the ground running, having not played any football since the end of last season. They will be looking to put up a title challenge in the abridged league this season. The club took to Twitter to announce their new signing in impressive fashion.
