Equatorial Guinea dominates Guinea-Bissau with 4-2 victory to Lead Group A

Equatorial Guinea took top-spot in Group A with a commanding 4-2 victory over Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Veteran forward Emilio Nsue emerged as the star of the match, scoring a sensational hat-trick to secure his team’s first win in the tournament.

The National Thunder, inspired by their impressive 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the opening match, showcased their superiority from the outset. Nsue set the tone by opening the scoring in the 21st minute, demonstrating Equatorial Guinea’s attacking prowess.

However, the dynamics shifted just before halftime when Guinea-Bissau’s Orozco Fernandez inadvertently scored an own goal, leveling the score temporarily.

Equatorial Guinea quickly regained control in the second half, with Josete Miranda and Nsue finding the net within five minutes, solidifying their dominance. Nsue completed his hat-trick in collaboration with Jose Machin, becoming the first player to achieve this feat at AFCON 2023.

Despite a late consolation goal by substitute Ze Turbo for Guinea-Bissau in stoppage time, Equatorial Guinea secured a convincing victory.

With this win, Equatorial Guinea leads Group A with four points, surpassing Nigeria and hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria defeated Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 later in the day to sit in second place with the hosts now third while Guinea-Bissau, having conceded the most goals in the tournament (six goals) are bottom in group A.
