Eric Chelle Praises Super Eagles After 2-0 Win Over Rwanda

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised his team after they defeated Rwanda 2-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The win was Nigeria’s first in the qualification series after five games. It moved them up to fourth place in Group C.

Victor Osimhen, playing his first game of the qualifiers, scored both goals in the first half to give Nigeria an important three points.

Chelle Happy With Team’s Flexibility

Nigeria started the match in a 4-3-1-2 formation, with Osimhen leading the attack along with Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman. As the game went on, Chelle changed the formation to a 4-3-3 and later to a 4-2-3-1. These changes helped Nigeria control the game and finally earn their first win in Rwanda after three previous failed attempts.

After the match, Chelle said he was pleased with how the team adapted and worked hard.

“We have a team with strengths and weaknesses, and my job is to find the best plan to help us win,” Chelle said.

“We played with two or three different systems today, and I’m proud of how well the players adjusted. They deserve this win.”

Focus Turns to Zimbabwe

Even though he was happy with the result, Chelle reminded his players that there is still work to do.

“This was only the first game. We have to keep working and improving,” he said.

“We have another important match against Zimbabwe on 25th March, and we need to be ready.”

The Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe next Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Another win could boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
