Erik ten Hag extends Manchester United stay
Erik ten Hag has signed a contract extension with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until 2026 following the decision of the new co-owners to retain the Dutch tactician.
This decision comes on the heels of ten Hag’s success in lifting the FA Cup trophy, which reportedly saved him from being sacked.
“I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together,” ten Hag stated. “Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined. However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles.”
With his position secured, ten Hag will now concentrate on the transfer market to strengthen the squad and bridge the gap between Manchester United and the league’s top teams. There is interest in Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt and Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.
The INEOS board’s decision to stick with ten Hag reflects their confidence in his ability to lead the team to further success and build on the progress made during his tenure.
The focus will now shift to securing new talent and preparing for the upcoming season, with the aim of challenging for both domestic and European titles.
