Erling Haaland signs new contract with Manchester City
Erling Haaland signed a new contract with Manchester City on Friday morning, securing his future at the club until the summer of 2034.
This means the Norway international will stay at the Etihad Stadium for the next nine and a half years, provided he completes his contract. The deal, which is said to be worth £500,000 per week, makes Haaland one of the highest-paid players in world football and is likely to put an end to any speculation about a move to Real Madrid.
It is reported that his previous wage of £375,000 per week has been increased to £500,000, meaning the deal is worth around £26 million a year.
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” Haaland said after signing the deal. “Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the kind of environment that helps bring the best out of everyone.
“I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to improve, and do my best to help us achieve more success going forward.”
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, added: “Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted that Erling has signed his new contract. The fact he is signed for so long shows our commitment to him as a player and his love for this club.
“He has made an incredible impact already, and his amazing numbers and records speak for themselves. But in addition to his natural talent, Erling’s dedication, professionalism, humility, and desire to improve reflect what we all strive for at Manchester City.
“He is one of the finest strikers in world football, but Erling Haaland is still very young and will continue to improve under Pep and his coaching team. If he works hard, which I know he will, he will create an incredible legacy at this football club. Now he can focus on his game and continue to play a huge part in helping us achieve even more success.”
