Ese Brume set for Diamond League return in Rome, while Tobi Amusan misses out

Nigeria’s long jump sensation Ese Brume is gearing up for a return to the big stage at the Rome Diamond League, marking her comeback after a challenging outing at the Paris Olympics.

In contrast, fellow Nigerian star Tobi Amusan will not be defending her 100m hurdles title, as she officially withdraws from the Diamond League.

Ese Brume, known for her prowess in the long jump, narrowly missed out on a medal at the Paris Games. Now, she is determined to regain her top form and make a strong statement in Rome. She will be up against a tough field, including Olympic champion Tara Davis-Woodhall and Paris bronze medallist Jasmine Moore. Spanish star Fatima Diame is also expected to provide stiff competition in what promises to be a thrilling event.

Despite the disappointment in Paris, Brume remains one of Nigeria’s brightest hopes in athletics, and her performance in Rome will be closely watched as she seeks to reclaim her position among the world’s elite long jumpers.

On the other hand, Tobi Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles, will not be defending her Diamond League title. After failing to qualify for the Olympic final in Paris, Amusan has been conspicuously absent from the track, missing three consecutive Diamond League meets. As a result, she has been unable to accumulate the necessary points to qualify for the final.

Amusan’s absence is a significant blow, as she has dominated the 100m hurdles in recent years, winning the Diamond League title three times in a row. Her no-show in Rome marks a rare low point in her otherwise stellar career.

As Brume looks to bounce back and Amusan remains out of action, Nigerian athletics fans will be keenly observing the developments in Rome, hoping for a strong finish to the season for their athletes.
