Europa League: Manchester United BUNDLED OUT by Sevilla
Manchester United have been bundled out of the UEFA Europa League after a 3-0 second leg loss at Sevilla on Thursday night.
A 2-2 1st leg score meant both teams started the 2nd leg level on aggregate.
Sevilla benefitted from a sloppy moment from United skipper Harry Maguire to grab the opening goal. David de Gea bizarrely sends a pass to Maguire on the edge of United’s box and the center-back made a mistake after being swamped by three white shirts.
Erik Lamela picked up Maguire’s loose touch and passed on to Youssef En-Nesyri to finish in the 8th minute.
Sevilla maintained the lead onto the half-time break. It could have been two but Lucas Ocampos had his effort ruled out.
Two minutes into the second half, Sevilla bagged their second goal.
After easily beating Victor Lindelof, Loic Bade’s header came off his shoulder and loops in over De Gea, who failed to stop the tame effort.
A story of a very poor performance by the Red Devils was summed by David De Gea`s error for the 3rd goal.
The Spanish goalkeepers attempted touch from a long ball falls straight to Youssef En-Nesyri, who strikes home from distance.
And so, at the blast of the whistle for full-time, United were bundled out of Europe for a fifth straight season by a Spanish team.
Sevilla who have endured a difficult domestic campaign will progress to the semi-final of the Europa League with a 5-2 aggregate result.
