Everton Invites Super Eagles legend for farewell to Goodison Park

Everton Football Club have invited Super Eagles legend Daniel Amokachi to a special farewell event as they prepare to leave Goodison Park at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Goodison Park, with a seating capacity of 39,414, has been Everton’s home since 1892 and is located in the Walton neighborhood of Liverpool.

Everton is set to move to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock after the 2024-25 season. To honor the historic occasion of leaving Goodison Park, the club has planned several events and invited notable figures, including Amokachi.

Amokachi, who played for Everton from 1994 to 1996, will perform at one of the farewell events. He is fondly remembered for his fantastic tenure with the club, particularly for his two goals against Tottenham Hotspur in the 1995 FA Cup semifinals and his memorable post-final celebration in a beret. Other favorites, such as Lee Carsley and Thomas Gravesen, will also be part of the celebrations.

Amokachi is among several Nigerian players who have made their mark at Everton, including Victor Anichebe, Joseph Yobo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Hope Akpan, Alex Iwobi, and Ademola Lookman.

Everton’s charitable division, Everton in the Community, has announced that live music performances will be part of the “Farewell to Goodison Festival.” The festival will take place from May 30, 2025, to June 1, 2025, featuring three evenings and an afternoon of live music.

A stage will be constructed in front of the Gwladys Street end, capable of holding 20,000 spectators. For the junior event, the capacity will be reduced.

The farewell to Goodison Park marks the end of an era for Everton and its fans. The events planned will celebrate the rich history of the stadium and the legends who have graced its field. Daniel Amokachi’s participation shows the lasting impact of his contributions to the club and its community.

Meanwhile, Daniel Amokachi was recently named Nigeria Super Eagles Assistant Coach but failed to turn up for the first engagement in June. It remains to be seen if he will feature in the soon to be announced new technical setup.
