Everton Women Part Ways With Brian Sorensen
Everton Women have confirmed that manager Brian Sorensen has left the club with immediate effect as the team continues its Women’s Super League campaign.
Everton are currently ninth in the WSL table, four points above bottom side Liverpool. The decision comes a week after the team ended a run of three consecutive league defeats with a 2–1 win over Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
Sorensen, 45, was appointed in the summer of 2022 and signed a contract extension until 2027 in April last year. Assistant coaches Stephen Neligan and Ashley Tootle have also left the club.
In a statement, Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear thanked the departing staff but said the club felt a change was needed.
“We would like to thank Brian, Stephen and Ashley for their efforts during their time at the club,” Kinnear said. “While Sunday’s win was important, we believe a change is necessary to help the team move forward.”
The club confirmed that Under-18s coach Scott Phelan will take charge of the team on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. He will be supported by first team coach Jennifer Foster and goalkeeping coach Ian McCaldon.
