Everton Football Club have announced the signing of Nigerian international forward Toni Payne from Spanish side Sevilla. SportsRation reports.

After a six-year stint in Spain, the 29-year-old joins the Toffees’ women’s team, becoming the first summer signing for manager Brian Sorensen’s side.

Born in Alabama, USA, Payne has an impressive international career, representing Nigeria at the senior level with 21 caps. She was part of the Super Falcons squad that competed in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where Nigeria narrowly lost to England in the round of 16.

Payne has a wealth of experience in the Spanish top-flight league, having featured in all 30 of Sevilla’s league fixtures last season and scoring six goals. Before switching her allegiance to Nigeria, Payne represented the United States at the youth international level.

Payne expressed her excitement about joining Everton, stating, “I’m super excited to be an Everton player. It’s been my dream to play in the UK and in such a strong league like the WSL. Now was the right moment for me to look for another challenge to push myself.”

Her signing is a significant boost to Everton’s women’s side, who are looking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. Payne’s experience and skill will undoubtedly be an asset to the team, and her addition is a testament to the club’s commitment to building a competitive squad.

The move to Everton marks a new chapter in Payne’s career, and she is eager to make her mark in the Women’s Super League. With her international experience and impressive club record, Payne is poised to become a key player for the Toffees.
