Everything Moses Simon Said after Nigeria Beat Tanzania in AFCON Opener

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has shared his thoughts after Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Tanzania in their opening Group C match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria started the game brightly under coach Eric Chelle and took the lead in the 36th minute. Semi Ajayi rose highest to head home a fine cross from Alex Iwobi.
Tanzania came out strongly after the break and drew level when Charles M’Mombwa scored early in the second half. The equaliser put Nigeria under pressure, but the Super Eagles responded quickly.
Just two minutes later, Iwobi provided another assist, setting up Ademola Lookman to score his fourth AFCON goal and restore Nigeria’s lead.
Moses Simon was introduced in the 59th minute, replacing Samuel Chukwueze, as Nigeria worked hard to protect their narrow advantage and secure all three points.
Speaking after the match, Simon urged fans to continue supporting the team, stressing that no game at the AFCON is easy.
“Football is not easy. Not every team at the AFCON will be easy to beat, so the fans should keep supporting us,” Simon said.
He added that the most important thing was getting the win. “When you win, you are happy. When you lose, you think about it. The key thing is the three points,” he said.
Looking ahead, Simon admitted that Nigeria’s next match against Tunisia will be tough. “The game against Tunisia will not be easy. Three points are on the line again, and everyone wants to win,” he said.
Nigeria will face Tunisia at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Saturday, December 27, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 pm.
