Ex-Chelsea player Geremi Njitap Initiates divorce proceedings due to paternity deception
Former Chelsea star Geremi Njitap has initiated divorce proceedings after discovering that he had raised twins for 12 years who were not his biological children during his marriage.
The 45-year-old footballer had been married to Toukam Fotso Laure Verline for over a decade.
According to reports from The UK Sun, court documents from Geremi’s native Cameroon reveal that Toukam’s behavior had “destroyed the harmony” of their marriage due to her repeated lies. The documents also state that “no children have been born from this union.”
Toukam had initially claimed that the twins, born in June 2008, were Geremi’s children, which led to their marriage. However, the revelation that the children were from her previous partner shattered the couple’s relationship.
Geremi, who made 109 appearances for Chelsea between 2003 and 2007, scoring four goals, also had a stint with Real Madrid from 1999 to 2003.
Internationally, he was a member of the Cameroon national team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.
