Ex-Golden Eaglets captain Samson Tijani joins Wolfsberger AC

Former Golden Eaglets captain Samson Tijani has sealed a season-long loan move to Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC from Red Bull Salzburg until June 2024.

One-cap Super Eagles international Tijani has featured for his Austrian club RB Salzburg on multiple occasions, even making his UEFA Champions League debut for the side. He was expected to have a breakout season in 2022-23 but suffered a horrific broken leg in a preseason friendly, ruling him out of the entire season.

Tijani impressed for the club in their preseason friendlies over this summer and made the bench in their first games of the season. It was, however, decided that he needs to move to a place where he can play regularly to enable him regain his form and rhythm on the pitch.

Defensive midfielder Tijani will embark on his third loan spell since joining the club. The 21-year-old previously spent time at TSV Hartberg and FC Liefering on loan.
