FA Cup: Championship Blackpool thrash hapless Nottingham Forest
Awoniyi missing, Dennis misfiring for Reds
Blackpool secured an impressive upset to knock Nottingham Forest out of the FA Cup after a 4-1 win in the clash. The Tangerines defeated the Reds for a first win in ten matches across all competitions this season.
After scoring the winner for the Reds in their 1-0 Premier League win over Southampton, striker Taiwo Awoniyi was unavailable for selection having picked up an injury in the second half of the match. In his place, compatriot Emmanuel Dennis started in attack for the Premier League outfit.
Blackpool made their intent clear early and opened the scoring after only 17 minutes. Defender Marvin Ekpiteta was on hand to fire into the back of the net from inside the box following a goalmouth scramble.
Nottingham Forest carried a threat of their own and only the woodwork denied Dennis an equaliser a few minutes shy of the half-hour mark.
Blackpool kept their opponents at bay before doubling their advantage shortly after the hour mark. Former Leeds United winger Ian Poveda-Ocampo received a pass from Jerry Yates before firing past the goalkeeper for his first goal in orange after 64 minutes.
With their opponents visibly demoralised, the Tangerines added to their misery with a third goal just seven minutes later through a fine CJ Hamilton strike.
Blackpool added a fourth in the 87th minute through the impressive Jerry Yates before Nottingham Forest scored a late consolation goal through Ryan Yates in the 92nd minute.
Blackpool have now claimed a first win after nine games without a win in all competitions. The Championship side advance to the Fourth Round of the competition.
