Former Roma manager Fabio Capello has supported Antonio Conte’s decision to substitute Napoli’s front three, including Romelu Lukaku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, during their goalless draw against Juventus in Serie A. Conte, Napoli’s current manager, made the bold tactical move late in the game as his team struggled to create chances against a strong Juventus defense.
Capello, while discussing the match with La Gazzetta dello Sport, noted that Conte’s decision was justified given the lack of contribution from his forwards. He highlighted how Lukaku, in particular, tends to struggle against top-level defenses, such as the one Juventus fielded, led by Bremer.
Capello commented, “If the three up front aren’t giving much and are struggling to work for the team, it’s right to change something. The match confirmed once again how Lukaku tends to disappear when facing a high-level defense.”
Napoli had entered the match on a winning streak, but Conte’s tactical adjustments couldn’t secure a breakthrough. The Italian side now turns its attention to upcoming fixtures against Palermo in the Coppa Italia and Monza in Serie A.
