Fabrizio Romano addresses Victor Osimhen-Chelsea transfer rumours
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided clarity on the growing speculation surrounding Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and a potential move to Chelsea in January, following comments from former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel.
Mikel recently hinted on his podcast that Chelsea came close to signing Osimhen during the summer transfer window. However, despite multiple contract offers, negotiations broke down on deadline day, largely due to Chelsea’s inability to match the salary the Super Eagles forward was earning at Napoli. Mikel suggested that the deal could still happen when the transfer window reopens in January.
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, addressed the rumours, emphasising that Osimhen is currently focused on honoring his commitment to Turkish side Galatasaray, whom he recently joined.
“Victor Osimhen just signed for Galatasaray. Respect for Galatasaray, not just from my side but also from the player’s side, camp, and the player himself,” Romano stated. He stressed that Osimhen and his camp are prioritizing their current responsibilities with the Turkish club, adding, “They want to respect Gala, focus on Gala, play for Gala.”
Despite this, Romano acknowledged Chelsea’s strong admiration for the Nigerian striker, saying, “Chelsea’s appreciation for Victor Osimhen remains absolutely.” He explained that while the club understands the challenges that derailed the summer move, particularly financial ones, their interest in Osimhen is still concrete.
“Chelsea understand what happened in the final days of August. They understand how complicated the negotiations for the player were in terms of financials, salary, and contract,” Romano elaborated.
For now, Osimhen’s focus remains on Galatasaray, but with Chelsea’s interest lingering, a potential move to Stamford Bridge could resurface in future transfer windows.
