Fabrizio Romano confirms William Troost-Ekong has agreed move to Saudi Arabian club

William Troost-Ekong, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations MVP, is reportedly on the verge of leaving Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki for a move to the Saudi Arabian Professional League.

The 30-year-old defender, who joined PAOK in the summer of 2023, is set to exit after a successful season where he played a crucial role in their Greek Super League title win. Despite his contributions, including a key goal in their Champions League playoff, Ekong is now heading to a new chapter in his career.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ekong is nearing a deal with Saudi Arabian side Al Khalood. Both PAOK and Al Khalood have reportedly agreed on the transfer terms, and Ekong has also settled personal terms with the Saudi club.

Fabrizio Romano, wrote on X: “William Troost-Ekong has agreed to join Al Khalood in Saudi Arabia.

“PAOK and Al Khalood agreed on fee plus personal terms also in place.

“30 year old Nigerian defender, set to move to Saudi Pro League.”

This move will see Ekong join other experienced players making the transition from European football to the increasingly prominent Saudi Pro League. His move is a significant step as the league continues to attract top talent with its lucrative offers.

Ekong’s departure comes as PAOK prepares for their Champions League qualifying match against Swedish champions Malmo. It remains unclear if Ekong will be available for this crucial fixture.
