Falconets Begin WAFU B U20 Girls Cup Campaign with Win Over Ghana

Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets, made a bright start to their WAFU B U20 Girls Cup campaign with a 3–1 victory over Ghana in Adjohoun, Benin Republic, on Saturday morning.
Eager to make amends for their defeat to Ghana in last year’s final, the Falconets approached the encounter with focus and determination. Star forward Janet Akekoromowei was the standout performer, scoring twice in the first half to give Nigeria a comfortable lead.
She opened the scoring in the 37th minute from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box, before adding her second just before the break with a composed finish that left the Ghanaian goalkeeper helpless.
The Black Princesses came out stronger in the second half and reduced the deficit five minutes after the restart, but Nigeria’s defence remained solid under pressure.
With time running out, Favour Chiamaka put the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute, curling a corner kick directly into the net to seal an impressive win for Nigeria.
The Falconets’ commanding performance sets a positive tone for the rest of their campaign as they aim for the regional title.
