Favour Ofili targets double Paris Olympics qualification at Edwin Moses Legends Meet
Nigeria’s track sensation, Favour Ofili, is set to compete in the 100m at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet on Saturday, aiming for an automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Ofili’s recent 100m performance was impressive, clocking a wind-aided 10.78s (2.2m/s) at the LSU Invitational last month. This time, she aims to run a legal sub-11s to secure her Olympic spot.
Ofili will compete against a strong field, including veteran US sprinter English Gardner, Tamara Clark, Morolake Akinosun, in-form Canadian Audrey Leduc, Javianne Oliver, and Celera Barnes. This formidable lineup will challenge Ofili as she strives to achieve her goal.
The 21-year-old has had an exceptional season, starting with a 300m African Record (AR) of 35.99s, breaking Amantle Montsho’s 14-year-old record of 36.33s. She followed this with a 100m time of 10.85s, the second-fastest season opener by a Nigerian athlete in history, behind Blessing Okagbare.
Ofili continued her impressive form with a legal 22.33s win in the women’s 200m elite event at the Tom Jones Invitational. At the Adidas Atlanta City Games, she broke the 150m straight AR with a time of 16.30s (-0.0 m/s), despite a slight stumble at the start. This time is the second-fastest in history and the quickest by an African woman.
With Paris Olympic qualification on the line, Ofili aims to deliver another record-breaking performance. Her consistent form this season indicates she is ready to take on the challenge and secure her place in the Olympics
